We've been staying busy these last few weeks.
Last weekend we took advantage of an MWR tour. It is easily the best way to be a tourist.

We did the Nagatoro River Cruise and visited the lovely town of Kawagoe. More on these in a bit.

First, Hosen had it's annual art showcase. The theme was 'sky'. I have no idea what this is. Maybe a bird's nest?? But Ellis made it.

Leyton's class, Fugi Gumi, made the moon.

After the Art show, we headed to base for the HSM-51 Children's Christmas party
Face-painting
Cookie decorating
Cookie eating
Santa!
And three bouncy houses! Needless to say, the girls had a blast.
Back to the cruise. You can read more about the Nagatoro area.
We were a little nervous about taking the girls on a boat. Especially after they showed us the splash guard for when we encounter rapids.
Our two crewmen were excellent. Very skilled with their bamboo poles.
There were very few rapids and the trip was only 20 minutes. Everyone had a blast and it was beautiful.
Safely on shore
After the boat trip, we had about an hour to explore the lovely town of Nagatoro before we rebounded the bus for Kawagoe.
This website can tell you a little more about Kawagoe.
Only a 30 minute train ride from Tokyo makes it a popular tourist spot.

E sampling the yummy purple sweet potato ice cream. One of the best parts about traveling in Japan is trying all the yummy and weird food.
Peace!
